All About ElliePants


The Ellie Nappy Company was founded by Lizzie Jewkes in 1996
and is now run by Karen Westcott.


How it all began:

It all started in 1995 when mum of 4, Lizzie Jewkes, was asked to write an article on nappy choices for her local branch of the National Childbirth Trust. She sampled lots of different washable nappy systems but couldn't find one that she considered good enough. So she designed her own, testing them out on her little ones.

The result was ElliePants.

Lizzie set up The Ellie Nappy Company in March 1996 with the aim of providing parents and carers with a high quality washable nappy system. ElliePants quickly became a top selling, award winning brand.

Karen's story

I decided to use washable nappies when I had my fourth child. I tested lots of nappy systems and found that ElliePants worked really well and were very economical. When I became a childminder, I used the same ElliePants on the children I looked after and they were still going strong when my fifth child, Rowan, was born. When Lizzie told me she had got an exciting new job and was giving up making nappies, I was very disappointed that I wouldn't be able to buy any more ElliePants. When the opportunity arose, I took over The Ellie Nappy Company and have been running it since April 2006. Although I have introduced a new, softer fabric and I'm offering some new products, the tried and tested ElliePants design and fluffy, absorbent nappies will remain just the same.

We aim for The Ellie Nappy Company to be an environmentally friendly business. The ElliePants nappy system offers a real alternative to disposable nappies which do considerable damage to the environment. Electricity used in the manufacture of ElliePants and the running of the business comes from renewable sources supplied by Good Energy. The workroom is mainly heated by passive solar heating. Recycled paper and packaging are used wherever possible and waste produced by the business is recycled or reused. Baby products are sourced from local suppliers when available.
